Bettors on Polymarket are betting on Len Sassaman as the leading candidate to be Satoshi.
Sassaman, a cryptographer and privacy advocate, took his own life in 2011, shortly after Satoshi stopped posting on Bitcoin forums. This coincidence has fueled several theories and tied his name to the mystery surrounding the creator of Bitcoin.
The other candidates and the betting
Currently, 46 percent of the bets on Polymarket point to Sassaman.
However, other well-known names are still in the running: Hal Finney (13%), the first developer to receive a Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi; Adam Back (6%), creator of Hashcash, a precursor to Bitcoin mining; and Nick Szabo (5%), known for introducing the concept of smart contracts.
Despite speculation, most bettors believe it is extremely unlikely that the identity will be revealed by 2024.
The mystery of Satoshi continues
Despite the enthusiasm, skepticism remains high.
On Polymarket, in fact, there is an 89 percent chance that Satoshi’s identity will not be proven this year. Sassaman is one of the most plausible candidates, especially because of the coincidence between his death and Satoshi‘s disappearance from the forums.
Hoback’s documentary, MoneyElectric: The Bitcoin Mystery, will debut onOct. 8. While there are many expectations, it may not offer a definitive answer as to who Nakamoto really is.
