Solana historic turn: devs surpass those of Ethereum
By Davide Grammatica
After eight years of unchallenged dominance, the Solana ecosystem has welcomed more developers than Ethereum did
Solana's growth
While still leading in total activity, Ethereum has given way to Solana with respect to the number of new developers welcomed into the ecosystem in one year. We are talking about 7,625 new devs landed on Solana compared to Ethereum’s 6,456, with a substantial boost coming mainly from the Asian community.
As Electric Capital records in a recent report, Solana outperforms Ethereum on a ground where the dominance of the second largest crypto by capitalization seemed unchallenged, with an 83 percent increase in activity over last year.
Solana thus wins on yet another front at the expense of Ethereum, after recording better data such as network activity on the back of FOMO from memecoin. As of October 28, Solana had also surpassed Ethereum with respect to daily network fees generated.
Industry development data
Ethereum retains the lead for total developer activity, despite a 17 percent decline in the number of devs over the past year. Layer-2s are growing, however, with a 64 percent increase in devs since 2021 (26 percent of total crypto devs worked on L2 and mainnet).
The largest growth is in the restaking protocol Eigenlayer, with the number of devs up 167%. And looking at the various ecosystems, the numbers are increasing globally, with new devs coming mainly from Africa, South America and Asia.
Asia, Europe and North America remain the most prolific crypto hubs, with India in particular offering the most human capital.
Again according to Electric Capital, activities span all time zones, with different parts of the world participating in different use cases throughout the day. One example is offered by the figure forstablecoin transactions , which are constant throughout the day and up 3 percent during Asian, European, and African daylight hours.
