Ethereum spot ETFs with dividends from staking?
The year 2024 is coming to an end. The year of Bitcoin and Ethereumspot ETFs marked a turning point in the industry, introducing to BTC and ETH within the portfolios of millions of investors.
Trump ‘s election and the changing of the guard at the SEC, open the door to a 2025 full of changes. The market expects spot ETFs on individual altcoins, with the first hints of ETFs on Solana, XRP and DOGE. We discuss these in depth on our TELEGRAM channel .
However, according to reports from analysts at Bernstein, a further change would be just around the corner for the coming year. Indeed, the introduction of the first spot ETF that generates a return not exclusively relative to the performance of the underlying asset is expected. Specifically, the market is beginning to discuss a spot Ethereum ETF that generates return from the staking of the underlying.
In fact, current spot ETFs, although counting more than 3 million ETHs, hold the underlying without getting the relative benefit from staking, with a return that is around 3 percent per year.
A favorable environment with falling interest rates
At the present time, the price of Ethereum is in extreme distress against Bitcoin, the market benchmark. Despite this, the market is beginning to appreciate the return generated by staking ETH relative to risk.
In an environment of falling interest rates, exposure in Ethereum backed by a yield that, at present, is around 3 percent, with room for growth as a result of large-scale use, this product could find strong investor interest.
Since MERGE, Ethereum has maintained a steady supply at around 120 million units. Considering that nearly 30 percent of ETHs are bound in Staking contracts, 2.5 percent within spot ETFs, and an additional 10 percent bound within Bridge and Lending Protocols, analysts expect a strong rally for the second largest cryptocurrency by capitalization.
