Watch out for Celestia: TIA's first major unlock today
By Daniele Corno
One year after the launch via airdrop of the TIA token, Celestia unlocks 86 percent of the tokens in circulation. Watch out for the price
Tia's release and incredible performance
It has been one year since the release of Tia, the Celestia protocol token , occurred via airdrop in October 2023.
Since the release, Tia has been at the center of a huge Hype, with price action silencing most tokens. In fact, the price of Tia has experienced tremendous growth since release. With a starting price near $2, the token has since reached its ATH in March 2024, with a price above $21.
The price movement was driven by the Airdop narrative, which saw tremendousgrowth just following the release of Tia, which also gave tremendous support to Atom ‘s growth at the beginning of the year.
However, after the release of the last two major Airdrop for Tia stakers, namely Dymension’s D YM token and the SAGA token of the eponymous protocol, the Celestia token saw amajor collapse, eroding almost all the performance it had done.
Tia's unlocks begin, watch out for the token
Tia has a maximum suppy of 1 billion tokens, however, only 26.6 percent are in circulation as a result of the TGE (token generation event).
Today the first major tokenunlocking took place. 176 million Tia were in fact released to the market, following the first major unlock, a counter value of $830 million.
Over the next year, an additional 100 percent of the supply will be unlocked, until we arrive, in October 2025 with a circulating amount of 800 million. The unlocks are monthly, about 28 million Tia per month become available in the market. The remaining 200 million are unlocked between October 2025 and October 2027.
The impact of the unlock is direct on the market, with Tia registering -10 percent on the daily chart. The price stands, at the time of writing at $4.7, down from $5.3 at the start of the day.
Today’s entry places Tia in the 56th place in marketcap, with a capitalization that has risen from just over $1 billion to just under $2 billion. For all intents and purposes, a real money printing.
